Optimising Your Site For Greater Adsense Revenue

By Lamo Damo

For a while, I've been making use of Google Adsense on my site as a form of earnings. Whilst it isn't something I would give up my real job over, a couple of bucks here and there fast turns into a couple of hundred dollars a month. Can't scoff at that.

But here's the brilliant thing - no matter how much cash AdSense is making for you currently, a few straightforward steps can increase that amount considerably. I read an article lately which I decided to apply and execute and managed to increase my Adsense earnings by 20%! If it's that simple and there are tricks and tips on how to grow that money, then why not?

This is Part 1 that contains a selection of pointers that may help maximise your takings from Adsense. Part 2 will be released shortly.

1) If you have not already done so, you should color code your advertisements to match your web site palette exactly. Human psychology plays into this and research has shown that people will click more eagerly when ads seem to be part of your site and not a stand alone function. Do not use frames around your advertisements as that isolates the ads. Instead, in the AdSense code generation settings, ensure you select the matching color as your page background for the ad frame and the ad background. When choosing the ads heading colours, match them to the matching colour of your page headings. Use the same ad background shade as your page background. In addition, use the equivalent ad text font and color as the wording on your pages. This one lone change will potentially make the best difference to your click conversion rates.

2) Tailor your page matter to a selected niche or focus. As you should know, page content that's tailored towards a particular theme is way more certain to trigger AdWords advertisements that closely match the content and is more certain to spark interest from your readers to click. My site focuses on free stuff, and frequently when I check the adverts by Adsense closely align with my site's content. It's amazing!

3) Anecdotal research indicates that the horizontal banner design or leaderboard image adverts are ineffective. This is possibly because they were the first advertisements and thus people know it is obvious advertising. So be sure you use the text based or vertical image advertisements.

4) Get tips using Google's own AdSense research at https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html to assist you in choosing where on to put the AdSense ad code. Placement is crucial. It must flow and feel a bit like part of the site.

So harness these tips to your advantage today.
